Veteran Congress leader and the party's candidate for the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency by-election K Jana Reddy today said that the leaders who had "descended" in hordes upon the constituency would do nothing for its development if they won the seat.
He made these remarks while addressing a gathering of important party workers in the region's Halia municipality.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy claimed that while he was contesting in the elections to uphold values, morals and democracy, his rivals were doing so just to grab power.
Slamming Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, he said that, contrary to his claims, the former was not alone responsible for fulfilling the dream of the people for a separate Telangana. He added that it was he, and not the CM, who had convinced the Congress high command to grant the region statehood.
He then called upon his party's rank and file to participate in the public meeting that will be held on March 27 in large numbers to make it a grand success.
While Jana Reddy has got the Congress ticket for the seat, reports suggest that there are six leaders in the ruling party who are being considered as possible candidates for the by-election. Though many believe that KCR may consider fielding Nomula Bhagath, the son of deceased MLA Nomula Narasimhaiah, others say that party leaders Guravaiah Yadav, K Anjaiah Yadav, MLC Tera Chinnapa Reddy, M C Kotireddy and Ranjith Reddy may also get the TRS ticket.
