Many people seemed to favour a United Andhra Pradesh

"Justice Srikrishna Committee would submit its report keeping in view of the best interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh," said V K Duggal, Member-Secretary of the committee.

The committee members received representations form people's representatives at Burugupudi village in Korukonda mandal, when on their 2-day visit to East Godavari district on Tuesday.

Duggal further said that the committee would submit its report to the government as per the time schedule fixed, and that suggestions given in this meet were valuable.

The committee members enquired about the role played by the villagers during the separate Andhra agitation during the year 1972. They asked the villagers why they were asking for a United Andhra Pradesh now when they had agitated for a separate Andhra in 1972.

The villagers replied that the state government had concentrated on making Hyderabad more developed after the separate Andhra agitation. They said that a United Andhra Pradesh would help the people now.

The panel members enquired about the migration of people from Andhra to Telangana and vice versa, as well as about literacy, unemployment and women's development.

The peoples' representations were translated to English by a local translator.

Korukonda mandal MPP B Satyanarayana Murthy represented to the commission for a United Andhra Pradesh as many of the people from Andhra region were settled at Hyderabad.

Some others said that a United Andhra Pradesh was in the interest of the people of this area, and others maintained that Rajahmundry should be capital if the state was to be divided.

Korukonda Sarpanch V Narasimha Rao said that Andhra Pradesh was formed on a linguistic basis, and that its identity should be continued.

Many women representatives and student representatives were in favour of United Andhra Pradesh.

Consultants of the committee Amithe Motwamy, Ravi Dhingra, Nodal officer of the state Rajiv Sarma, and In-charge collector of the district K Sashidar, were all present.

Later, the committee visited the Godavari barrage at Dowleswaram, and irrigation officials explained to them the delta irrigation system.
