After an initial lull, the members of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust are wasting no time in taking the various calls that will ensure that the institutions affiliated to the Trust function smoothly even in the absence of their founder.
Within a week, the trustees announced 4 major decisions:
1) Satyajit was appointed the head of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini Trust - a trust that controls the management of 99 schools across the country, and 33 other schools overseas. 2) S V Giri, Venu Srinivasan and J Ratnakar were given cheque-signing powers. 3) Sri Sathya Sai Baba will remain the Chairman of the Trust, and the trustees will take turns in chairing meetings in the future. 4) Justice P N Bhagavathi was appointed the Chancellor of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL).
The 4th decision was taken on Saturday morning at a meeting convened by the trustees, at Prashanti Nilayam in Puttaparthi. A 3-member board, comprising former Supreme Court Judge A P Mishra, former Madras University Vice-Chancellor Tyagarajan and Baba's nephew R J Ratnakar, was formed to assist the Chancellor in fulfilling his responsibilities.
Prof. Shashidhar Prasad will continue to serve as the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
