Former chief minister K Rosaiah on Friday called on the Opposition parties to join hands with the government and fight to get the rightful share of waters from the river Krishna, in light of the adverse verdict given by the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal.
Reminding the Opposition that they have a duty to act responsibly, Rosaiah said that if they kept criticizing the government instead of helping it in the fight against the verdict, they would be failing in their mandate.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, the former chief minister said the state had suffered a major injustice in the sharing of waters, thanks to the tribunal's verdict.
Rosaiah sought to remind the Opposition that if it does not act in a responsible manner and support the government, it will also be blamed for jeopardizing the interests of state.
He said the Opposition parties should not focus on blaming the government and pinpointing its weaknesses, and must, instead, join hands with the government to protect the interests of the state, particularly of the farmers in the Krishna delta.
The verdict would turn the agriculturally well-developed Krishna delta into a desert, he opined.
The former CM said that the Tribunal had provided for a time of 3 months to file a review petition. He invited parties to come forward with workable suggestions and extend cooperation to the government.
