The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed a stormy debate on the issue of handing over control of Telangana's projects on the Krishna River to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), with the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS indulging in a war of words over the track record of the two parties while in power.
The rancorous debate took up the entire day, with heated arguments between Harish Rao and Congress ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, accusing each other over the issue.
After Minister for Irrigation Uttam Kumar Reddy first gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Krishna river and the projects, BRS MLA Harish Rao was given an opportunity to speak on the subject.
Rao accused the State government of giving a false presentation on the river and deliberately blaming the previous BRS government.
Interrupting the speech of Rao, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the Krishna water was the lifeline for Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts, but the BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao's sins in the past ten years had resulted in the State not getting the waters it rightfully deserved.
The CM also found fault with KCR for not attending the Assembly session when such an important discussion was going on the Krishna river waters.
"Let KCR come to the House. We are ready to debate on the issue whenever he comes. The words of other BRS MLAs have no value in the Assembly," Reddy said.
The Chief Minister also said that the State government was passing a resolution in the Assembly demanding 68% of the Krishna waters for Telangana and to not hand over the Krishna projects to the Centre / KRMB.
He also asked the BRS MLAs to clarify whether they were in favour of or against the resolution.
