Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Assembly K Jana Reddy called on TRS secretary-general K Keshava Rao on Wednesday morning.
The unexpected meeting between the senior Congress and TRS leaders raised many an eyebrow and evoked discussions among the political circles.
Some political analysts felt Reddy might have called on the TRS secretary-general in connection with the upcoming MLC elections.
They said that Reddy had close relations with Rao when the latter was in the Congress, and the former might have met his old friend in connection with the MLC elections seeking TRS' help.
With the ruling TRS eyeing the fifth MLC seat, too, the election has become a prestige issue for all parties. Analysts are not able to guess whether Reddy met the TRS leader to request him to spare the fifth seat for the Congress or any other reason. As the Congress has a chance of winning the fifth MLC seat, the Congress High Command is likely to announce its candidate on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, some 40 Congress leaders are aspiring for the ticket for the fifth MLC seat. Senior party leaders say AICC president Sonia Gandhi might select the candidate. But if Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi intervenes, the juniors in the party may be considered.
The party High Command may consult TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jana Reddy in this connection. (NSS)
