Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Assembly K Jana Reddy on Saturday accused Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu of creating enmity between the Telugu-speaking people.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party office, Reddy alleged that KCR and Naidu both deliberately created a war-like scene at the Nagarjuna Sagar dam on Friday only for political gains.
He said that such a controversy could have been avoided if both the CMs had agreed to discuss the issue.
However, he welcomed the meeting between the two CMs at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday, and said that instead of having confrontations, the states should find amicable solutions in the interests of the Telugu-speaking people.
Reddy also blamed the Centre for the ongoing controversy over the sharing of the waters.
Accusing the Centre of remaining a mute spectator to the development, he said that the Centre did not issue clear guidelines or instructions to the Krishna Water Board which was constituted about nine months ago.
He said that the lethargic attitude of the Centre and adamant nature of both the Chief Ministers would hurt the interests of poor farmers in both the states.
Speaking about the Telangana government's Mission Kakatiya and Water Grid projects, Reddy asked KCR to explain when and how he proposed to release the waters.
He also demanded that KCR hold an all-party meeting and take a delegation to New Delhi on the issue.
He said that the water- and energy-sharing issues should be resolved by keeping political differences aside to prevent the conditions from deteriorating further.
Congress MP Gutha Sukhendar Reddy and MLA Bhaskar Rao were also present during the press conference. (INN)
