Ostensibly bowing to the pressure of Telangana activists, the Censor Board has finally given clearance to the N Shankar directed film 'Jai Bolo Telangana'.
With the Censor Board giving clearance, the controversial film is set for release on February 4th. Earlier, the film was scheduled to release on January 28th, but it ran into trouble when a few board members objected to the film's content and scenes.
Later, revising committee of the board watched the movie and suggested a few minor cuts to which the director Shankar agreed. Thus, the Censor Board gave clearance to 'Jai Bolo Telangana' and awarded an 'A' certificate to the film.
Earlier in the day, the Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee members staged a protest in front of the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation office to protest against the Censor Board's decision of not giving clearance to the film.
The advocates raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans, took out a motorcycle rally from Nampally Criminal Courts complex to Censor Board office at Film Development Corporation office.
The advocates entered into heated arguments with the police at the board office. Sensing trouble, the police arrested 30 advocates and shifted them to a nearby police station.
The lawyers alleged that the Censor Board, which gave clearance certificate to Rakta Charitra made by a Seemandhra producer, was showing discrimination towards the film as it belonged to Telangana region.
Advocates JAC convener Rangarao said that the Seemandhra leaders hatched a conspiracy to stop the film as it highlighted the great sacrifices of Telangana people for the cause of separate statehood.
He alleged that the Seemandhra theater owners were making efforts not to screen the film.
