The police on Monday tightened security across the state to prevent any untoward incidents from taking place in the wake of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy
resigning from the Congress party's primary membership and Lok Sabha seat.
According to Director General of Police K Aravind Rao, the police have tightened security at all District Congress Committee offices and MLA's residences, as the Kadapa MP's followers have resorted to staging protests against the Congress party leadership.
Reports of some Jaganmohan Reddy supporters resorting to violence in some places, particularly in Kadapa and Anantapur districts, are also coming in.
The DGP alerted all Superintendents of Police to take necessary steps to maintain law and order and act severely against anti-social elements.
YSR loyalists across the state resorted to rallies, and burnt Congress president Sonia Gandhi effigies supporting Jaganmohan Reddy and opposing the high command.
There are also reports that Jagan loyalists have submitted resignations to their posts at many places across the state to express solidarity with him.
In the wake of reports coming, regarding the Praja Rajyam Party extending its support to the Congress, the police have tightened security at the PRP office.
Meanwhile, the DGP has said that police have taken 20 activists into custody in Anantapur district, for resorting to violence.
