Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday announced a major decision - that the state government would release the full amount pending towards fees reimbursement - Rs 1,800 crore - for the academic year 2018-19.
Speaking at a teleconference with District Collectors, SPs and other officials on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the fees reimbursement for the academic year 2019-20 would also happen in three installments.
In addition, Jagan said that the fees reimbursement amount would be directly credited to the students' mothers' accounts from the next academic year.
Several issues and decisions related to education were discussed in the teleconference where officials from the education department also participated.
The officials brought to the Chief Minister's notice that under the previous government, an amount of only Rs 35,000 was provided under the fees reimbursement scheme to students studying engineering, and that the remaining amount was collected from the parents by the institutions.
