Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today said that the state government had performed better than all other states of the country in the prevention of the coronavirus, and that the state stood number one in the entire country by conducting 2,500 tests for every 10 lakh people.
He termed it a record, and complimented the officials of the state for working hard to prevent the spread of the virus.
He made these remarks while holding a video conference with all the district Collectors and SPs of the state.
Speaking on the occasion he said that the state had only one testing lab for the virus, at the SVIMS in Tirupati, 35 days back, with a waiting period of 2 days to get the reports. Now there were labs in 11 other districts of the state, and turnout kits in all the districts.
There was also a strong network in the form of Asha workers and village volunteers, he said.
Reddy reiterated his earlier statement that the coronavirus had become a part of the lives of the people of the country, and that all Indians should learn to live with the virus. He pointed out that the death rate among people infected with the virus was less than 2% in the world.
The CM also asked the officials to make arrangements to accommodate one lakh outsiders in the quarantine centres of the state.
