The special CBI court on Monday directed Roads And Building Minister B Dharmana Prasad Rao and former Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkatarama to appear before it on January 4.
The court issued these directions while hearing a petition filed by the Central Bureau Of Investigation contending that the state government's consent was not required to prosecute Dharmana and Mopidevi. The next hearing on the petition will be held on January 4.
It may be mentioned here that the state cabinet had rejected the CBI's request to sanction Dharmana's prosecution. However, the same file was rejected by Governor E S L Narasimhan.
Mopidevi Venkata Ramana has already been arrested by the CBI in the VANPIC segment of the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy. Currently, he is on interim bail from December 24 to January 2, to attend the Deekhsha of Swamy Ayyappa in Sabarimala. (INN)
