Tension prevailed in the district court at Hanumakonda in the Warangal district when police forcibly prevented agitating lawyers from entering the court.
The lawyers were protesting against the suspension of two lower court judges by the Hyderabad High Court on Monday on disciplinary grounds for protesting the provisional allocation of judicial officers in the two Telugu States. One of the suspended judges is also the president of the Telangana Judges' Association.
As part of the agitation, the lawyers boycotted the courts and ransacked furniture in a court hall. The on-guard police personnel tried to prevent the lawyers from resorting to vandalism, which led to conflict between the lawyers and the police. The agitating lawyers raised anti-police slogans and against also against the judges of Andhra origin.
According to a report, some ten lawyers were taken into custody by the police and shifted to the Subedari police station. Later, other agitating lawyers gathered before the police station and squatted on the road demanding the release of their colleagues.
The main reasons for the protests are the non-bifurcation of the High Court after Telangana was created and the appointment of Andhra origin judges to Telangana courts.
