D V V S Varma calls for resurrecting the values of the freedom movement to take our country forward.
Lok Satta Party Working President D V V S Varma on Sunday called for resurrecting the values of the freedom movement to take our country forward.
Addressing the gathering after hoisting the the national flag, on the occasion of the 64th Independence Day, at the party headquarters, Varma recalled that people displayed tremendous unity during the freedom struggle by setting aside their religion, caste, region, and language.
Gandhiji viewed politics as a noble endeavor in people's service, and he fought for people's empowerment through 'gram swaraj', said Varma.
Varma regretted that post-independence, politics has strayed away from the values enshrined during the freedom movement. The country is facing a threat to its unity and integrity because of animosities and conflicts rooted in religion, caste, region, and language, he said.
People's lives have become miserable because of the over-centralization of powers, and becase of monumental corruption, he stated.
Varma said the Lok Satta Party had come into existence to usher in ethical and rational politics anchored in nationalism, secularism, democracy.
Leaders from Lok Satta, Mahila Satta, and Yuva Satta, including V Laxman Balaji, S Manorama, P Bhaskara Rao, Bandaru Rammohana Rao, Eeda Chennayya, N Saroja Devi, K Gita Murthy, Y Ramadevi and Mangala, took part in the program.
