Tollywood superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna on Tuesday became the 4th overall franchisee owner of a team in the i1 Super Series.
Hyderabad is the 4th of 9 cities to confirm its participation. Each team will have a driver of Indian origin, and an international driver per car marking, which is a new dimension to Indian motor sport.
Consequently, Nagarjuna joins the league of team owners that include actor Shah Rukh Khan (Mumbai), Arindam Chaudhari (New Delhi) and hotelier Arjun Baljee (Bangalore).
The i1 Super Series will consist of 12 races, with 9 teams representing different Indian cities.
The inaugural i1 Super Series season will begin in January, and will be held in India, UAE, Malaysia, Bahrain and Qatar. The overall winner will be richer by $2 million.
Announcing the partnership, Anjana Reddy, Director of Machdar Motorsports, said, "I am very pleased to announce that we have finalised our team owner for the Super Series, which is slated for January next. It is a huge boost to us to have Nagarjuna as part-owner of the Hyderabad franchisee. He is an excellent addition for the i1Super Series."
