Hyderabad is gearing up to host the 72nd Miss World pageant, a prestigious global event, from May 7 to 31, 2025.
This edition is expected to highlight Telangana's rich culture and tourism potential, given as it is being hosted in the State's capital. As per reports, the State government has made extensive preparations to ensure the event's success, viewing it as a significant opportunity to boost international recognition and economic growth.
Ahead of the grand event, a pre-event press conference was held at Greenlands' Tourism Plaza, attended by several dignitaries including Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszkov?, Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, TGTDC Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, Tourism Principal Secretary Smita Sabharwal and Miss World Limited CEO Julia Morley.
Expressing her excitement, Pyszkov? praised India's rich cultural heritage and shared her enthusiasm for being part of an event that celebrates diversity, talent and empowerment.
Krishna Rao said that bringing the global pageant to Telangana was a significant achievement, and called it a "historic moment" for the State.
"The Miss World competition is more than just a beauty pageant; it symbolises women's empowerment and 'beauty with a purpose'. Women play a vital role in shaping society, and this event aligns with our vision of promoting inclusivity and diversity," he said.
Drawing comparisons with South Korea's global cultural success through Squid Game and BTS, the minister said that the Miss World pageant could position Telangana on the international stage.
"This event will not only enhance our cultural identity but also attract global investments and employment opportunities for the youth. With over 140 contestants from various countries and thousands of international visitors, the event is anticipated to provide a significant boost to our tourism sector, generating substantial revenue for the State," he said.
Given the debates over the relevance of beauty pageants in modern times, the minister urged critics to recognise the competition as a platform for women's empowerment rather than view it through a political lens.
The minister said that the event was estimated to cost Rs 54 crore, with Rs 27 crore allocated by the TGTDC and the remaining funds expected to be generated through sponsorships.
