The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is expecting an augmentation of nearly 90 MGPD (Million Gallons Per Day) of water supplies in the next few months as the third phase of the Krishna River Water Supply project is nearing completion.
According to sources, the third phase of Krishna River Water Project, which is being executed at a cost of Rs 1,670 crores, is likely to be completed by this month's end.
Therefore, the Water Board is expecting to draw about 45 MGPD of additional water by March-end.
Another 45 MGPD will be available by August this year after the completion of some pending works.
The Krishna river water will come to Kondapur, Narsapally (34 km), Godakondalla (24 km) and Gangal (21 km), and then reach Saheb Nagar (30 km). Then it will be pumped at a 410-metre height, and supplied to Sainikpuri and Mailardevpally through two ring mains.
Areas including Prashasan Nagar and Lingampally will gain after the completion of this phase.
Of the Rs 1,670 crores, HUDCO had provided Rs 1,500 crores while the remaining Rs 170 crores was the state government's contribution. (INN)
