Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C V Anand today warned the residents of the city about investment frauds on WhatsApp and Telegram.
He said that China was the centre of the activity of the frauds.
He said that the police had nabbed a gang involved in the scam on the basis of a complaint by a resident of Chikkadapally. He said that the victim had received an offer of a "rate and review" part-time job and had registered in a website called travellingboost99.com. He said that the victim was given five tasks, and was told that he could earn Rs 866 for every Rs 1,000 he invested.
The CP said the victim was not able to withdraw his profit or even the principal amount when he wanted to, and eventually lost Rs 28 lakh due to the fraud.
He said that two Chinese scamsters by names Lulyo Nanye and Kevin June were the main accused in the entire fraud, which ran into crores. He said that transactions amounting to a total of Rs 584 crore were done from 65 bank accounts created by the accused with the help of one Prakash Prajapathi, and that a total of 15,000 persons had lost their money in the fraud.
The police had seized 17 mobile phones, two laptops, 22 SIM cards and four debit cards from the accused, the CP said.
