The Telangana Auto Drivers' JAC has given a call for an auto bandh and a Chalo Assembly demonstration on March 16 demanding the immediate arrest of the managements of Ola and Uber for "illegally" fixing the cab and auto rates at Rs 6 and Rs 7.25 per kilometer respectively as against the Rs 11 mandated by the State government.
Also, the auto drivers' protest meeting in the twin cities was fixed for 2 pm on March 14 at the Basheerbagh Press Club.
The JAC also demanded a total ban on the registration of new diesel-run cabs and on the plying of diesel-run cabs in the twin cities, fixinh of Ola and Uber rates, ban on extra fare collection from passengers in the name of "surge pricing", the government sharing 50% of the third party auto insurance charges as subsidy, KCR fulfilling his promise of issuing DL and badge without the applicants needing to have passed 8th class, and withdrawal of the recent increase in the RTA fee structure.
Mohd Amanullah Khan, Convenor, in a statement alleged that the state government had betrayed the poor auto drivers to favour Ola and Uber.
He appealed to the drivers to get ready for a "do-or-die" agitation.
