The Telangana Auto Drivers' JAC has called for a one-day autorickshaw bandh on November 30 to protest against Uber and Ola Cabs indulging in "uneconomic competition with autos illegally", and spot-challans instead of the e-challans system.
Addressing mediapersons on Sunday, JAC convenor Mohd Amanullah Khan said that as per Section 67 (d) of the MV Act, it was the responsibility of the government to prevent uneconomic competition among the public service vehicles such as autorickshaws and taxis. For this purpose, different slabs of fares had been fixed for autorickshaws and taxi cabs.
But Uber and Ola Cabs had been for some time collecting lesser rates per kilometer than even autorickshaws in violation of the MV Act, he said. Therefore, the auto drivers were being deprived of their 1-1/2 fare during the nights between 11 pm and 5 am. Consequently, there was a simmering discontent among the auto drivers in the twin cities, who were now left with no alternative than to go on a strike and intensify their agitation, he stated.
Telangana Auto Drivers' JAC leaders J Ravinder, Mohd Dastagir, Mohd Azeemuddin, J Vamshikrishna, Syed Ghouse Lucky and Farooq Bhai were present.
