In a proud moment for the city, the historic Kotwal Office at Purani Haveli is set to be officially inaugurated on July 10, following a meticulous heritage restoration.
The 150-year-old structure, once a pivotal seat of law enforcement in Hyderabad's Old City, was on the verge of demolition after its roof collapsed four years ago.
Determined to preserve the city's rich heritage, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand, IPS, took the initiative to restore the structure. With the generous support of Anil Kumar Chalamasetty, CMD of Greenko, restoration work began in December 2022. However, the project was halted following Anand's transfer in October 2023. Upon his reappointment as Commissioner in September 2024, the project was revived and advanced with renewed commitment.
The restoration was carried out by Mir Khan of Deccan Terrain Agencies, who was praised for executing the complex task with precision and care.
"This building holds immense historical significance for policing in Hyderabad. I'm pleased that the Kotwal will now have a dignified space to use during visits to the Old City," said Anand.
The restored Kotwal office now stands as a proud symbol of Hyderabad's commitment to preserving its cultural and administrative legacy.
