As on Wednesday evening, 14 people have died in the illicit liquor case in East Godavari district. 50 people were admitted to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada, following villagers from 5 villages approaching doctors after drinking hooch few days ago.
Authorities say that 150 to 200 people might have consumed the liquor, and have appealed to people to immediately approach nearby hospitals. Around 230 people have taken ill so far.
7 had died on Monday, and 4 more on Tuesday. A few more are in a critical condition. The victims were mostly farm labourers, and were taken ill after they drank the liquor at an illegal extension of a licensed liquor shop in Gagulakurru Agraharam of Ambajipeta mandal in East Godavari.
The government had ordered a probe, and the main accused, Ramakrishna, has been arrested along with 7 others. 5 excise officers have been suspended as well.
