"The State should attain self-sufficiency in the production of quality yield seeds through coordinated efforts by the agricultural ministry, agricultural organizations and farmers," Telangana Agriculture Secretary C Parthasarathi said.
Addressing the officials of the Seeds Corporation in Telangana, Parthasarathi said, "This year the ministry has set a target of providing high yield seeds for 1,19,611 acres compared to 78,300 acres of lands last year."
Of the 1,19,611 acres, the Seeds Corporation would certify paddy for 43,739 acres, soya bean for 67,000 acres, groundnut for 4,300 acres and red gram for 2,250 acres of lands, he added.
He asked the officials to work together to ensure that the farmers used only high quality yield seeds (also known as high yield seeds). He also directed them to go on field trips to farmlands in Telangana and disseminate information on the production of high yield seeds, quality control, seed breeding, eco-friendly fertilizers and the latest farming technologies to the farmers. He also suggested to the officials that they conduct a study on GM variety seeds.
"The government will provide basic facilities to seed producers, and the staff should work hard to deliver the best results," he said.
He also said that the government aimed at producing export quality seeds to generate revenue.
