The Telangana High Court on Wednesday postponed the elections for the recognised trade union in the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), one of the largest coal mining companies in the country, to December 27.
The trade union elections were scheduled to be held on October 28. However, 13 trade unions and the management of the SCCL approached the High Court seeking postponement of the elections in the view of upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.
The appeal said that about 700 employees belonging to the SCCL had been deputed on election duty for the Assembly elections, and that it would be very difficult to conduct the trade union elections due to that.
Taking the plea of the SCCL into consideration, the High Court ordered the postponement of the trade union elections, and asked the management to conduct the elections on December 27.
The High Court also directed the SCCL management to complete the process of voter list finalisation by November 30.
