In a huge relief to the Telangana government, the High Court today set aside the stay imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project.
The State government counsel argued that the NGT imposed stay without hearing the version of the Telangana State government on Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project. It also revealed that the NGT imposed a stay up to January 17 on the project against primary legal rules. The Telangana State Advocate-General said that the High Court however vacated the stay dismissing the NGT's directions.
The Advocate-General also recalled that the HC refused to take up the hearing on BJP leader Dr. Nagam Janardhan Reddy's petition in this regard. He said claimed that the project was aimed at providing water to the people of 1,131 villages.
The Advocate also made it clear that the State government would use the project water strictly to provide drinking water.
He, on the behalf of the State government, also informed the Court that it (government) would not construct the project in the Amrabad reserve forest area.
Considering the State government's plea, the High Court dismissed the NGT's directions.
