The heavy rains which lashed the city on Tuesday evening played havoc, throwing normal life out of gear. Many parts of the city were inundated with knee-deep water, and traffic jams led to people being stranded for hours together.
Employees of MNCs at Hi-Tech City were also caught unawares due to the sudden heavy downpour. Traffic to and from Hi-Tech City was forced to a halt, as the knee-deep waters forced two-wheelers to stall.
Even bus passengers were forced to disembark and wade through the inundated roads.
More than a hundred vehicles were seen stranded with their engines stalled. There was no respite for the commuters, even at 10:30 pm.
The traffic jam stretched from Madhapur to Miyapur.
Amazingly, no traffic police personnel were visible, and it was left to some Good Samaritans to try and restore a semblance of normalcy to the traffic. These efforts failed as evident by the traffic jams.
An RTC bus conductor of bus No. 47K, Kishore, said that it normally takes 45 minutes to reach Secunderabad from Kondapur. He said that the rain and inundated roads had forced the bus to crawl from Madhapur to Shilparamam in 40 minutes.
