The Andhra Pradesh High Court asked the state government to reconsider the appointment of four State Information Commissioners (SICs), on Thursday.
The court, while delivering its verdict on a petition filed by the Forum For Good Governance, questioned the appointment of S Imtiaz Ahmed, M Vijaya Nirmala, L Tantiya Kumari and V Venkateswarlu as State Information Commissioners. The court directed the government to recommend four new names for appointment to the posts of State Information Commissioners, within a period of six weeks.
In addition to these four, the state government had sent the names of Vijaybabu, Prabhakar, Madhukar Raju and M Ratan for appointment as SICs. However, the Governor rejected the candidature of Imtiaz, Nirmala, Tantiya Kumari and Venkateswarlu, and returned the file to the government.
Later, the state government sent the file to the Governor again with the same 8 names. Hence, the Governor had to put his stamp of approval, reporedly due to no other option.
So, the Forum For Good Governance approached the court in regard to the issue. Hence while delivering its verdict, the court asked the government to reconsider the appointment of four SICs. (INN)
