Police on Sunday stopped Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao from meeting students from Telangana who have been shifted to the Osmania General Hospital from the Cherlapally Jail.
The students were shifted to the hospital after their health deteriorated at the jail on the 4th day of their indefinite fast.
Osmania Students union leader Rajaram and Telangana Joint Action Committee Leader Ramesh, had taken up the fast in Cherlapally Jail along with 9 other students, where they have been lodged since their arrest, to force the government to lift cases against them.
Harish Rao, along with some of his supporters, made his way to the hospital to inquire about their condition, but the police stopped him. Harish entered into an argument with the police, and when they did not relent and allow him to meet the students, staged a dharna.
Sensing trouble, the police arrested Harish Rao and his supporters, and shifted them to Faluknama police station.
Talking to media persons later, Harish Rao stated if the government has any commitment towards Telangana it should lift all police cases against students and prove its sincerity.
He stated that no one can stop the formation of a separate Telangana state by arresting its leaders and mobilizing forces to crush the agitation.
The MLA further charged home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Director General of Police Aravinda Rao with behaving in an inhuman manner towards Telangana students. He regretted that not a single Telangana minister or MLA had come to see the Telangana students during their fast.
