Finance Minister T Harish Rao today performed the Bhoomi Puja for the construction of the Sangameswara lift irrigation project at Chinna Chalmeda village of Munipalli mandal in Sangareddy district.
The Sangameswara project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2,653 crore, and is aimed at providing irrigation facilities to about 19 lakh acres in the Sangareddy, Andol and Zaheerabad Assembly constituencies.
Waters from the river Godavari drawn from the Govindapur area under the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project are lifted to a 660-metre height for the Sangameswara project.
Rao said that 12 TMC of water had been allocated to the Sangameswara project under the Kaleshwaram project, and that the State government was committed to completing the project in two years.
The minister said that once the Sangameswara project was completed each acre in Sangareddy district would come under irrigation, and that the farmers of the district would be able to cultivate crops for two seasons every year without depending on rain water.
