The governor of Andhra Pradesh, E S L Narsimhan, addressed a joint session of the AP legislature today, ahead of the Budget session of the Assembly. Slogans of “Jai Telangana” were raised as soon as he began, but the situation was anticipated by the police force, as foolproof security was arranged in and around the Assembly premises.
The uproar didn't last for too long, and members prevailed upon their protesting colleagues to resume the seats.
However, there was widespread denouncing of the content of the Governor's address, as members of the opposition cried foul at Narsimhan's glorification of the development of the state.
Several ministers have said that the speech was useless and hardly connected to ground realities. Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP chief, said that the government has not been able to take care of several issues including prices, agriculture and welfare schemes, and that it hasn't even been able to provide citizens with drinking water, apart from having completely failed in law and order.
Telangana ministers are venting their ire at there being no mention of Telangana in the speech. Some have gone on to say that the Congress has made the governor lie, and that he has left the common man's problems out of his address.
