Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today reiterated that the State government was committed to providing the best possible education facilities in every village and tanda, and would not close single teacher schools in the State.
Speaking at a program at Ravindra Bharathi after presenting awards to the students of the government schools who secured a perfect 10/10 GPA in the 10th standard, the CM said that spending on education was not expenditure but an investment, and that society would reap rich dividends from it.
He alleged that the previous BRS government had neglected the education sector and closed down single teacher schools citing lack of students.
"That situation came about due to a lack of focus on developing infrastructure in government schools," he said.
The CM announced that to ensure that the problems being faced were addressed continuously, the State government would constitute education commissions soon.
He also said that the State government had started works at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore to rebuild all government school buildings which were in a dilapidated condition, and had also launched a program named Professor Jayashankar Badi Bata aimed at increasing the enrollment of students in government schools.
He also said that the State government had decided to hand over the management of government schools to women's groups, and that officials had been directed to release funds through the green channel.
"The State government is also considering a proposal for the implementation of semi-residential system in government schools," Reddy added.
"The government is ready to receive suggestions to improve standards in schools. Officials have already been directed to pay special attention to the admissions of students in schools. This is a people's government, and it will move forward by instilling confidence among the people," the CM said.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the award-winning government school students for excelling in their studies, and said that it was a matter of pride that government school students were competing with corporate schools in Telangana.
He also appreciated the Vande Mataram Foundation for organising the program.
