Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K Tarakarama Rao, on Thursday, demanded that the state government release a monthly pension of Rs. 500 for each of the victims of fluoride contamination in Nalgonda district.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of a meeting chaired by Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar at the Assembly Hall, Tarakarama Rao said that the condition of people affected by the flouride content in their drinking water was pathetic, and that the government must support them financially by announcing a monthly pension of Rs. 500 to each victim.
He also demanded that the government appoint 500 nodal officers in the affected villages, to take steps to supply clean and safe drinking water.
The TRS leader demanded that the central government set up a national laboratory in Nalgonda district to test the percentage of flouride in the water, and to contain the problem.
He also appealed to the government to complete the Sriram Sagar Project to solve the drinking water needs of Telangana districts. (INN)
