GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain on Saturday said that the restoration of all heritage buildings would be taken up soon at a cost of Rs 100 crores.
The Mayor said that the selected buildings would be restored to their original glory by using materials like limestone.
He said that no artificial material or cement would be used for the restoration.
He mentioned that previously there used to be a heritage committee which used to look after the heritage buildings in the entire GHMC area, but no maintenance works could be taken up as there were no budget provisions.
Keeping in view the importance of the maintenance of heritage structures, the GHMC has allotted Rs. 100 crores for the purpose.
Earlier, the Mayor, along with Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri and other senior officials, inspected some of the heritage structures at the Quli Qutub Shah office, Divan Devdi and other places in the Old City.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that the main aim of the visit was to begin the restoration of the Quli Qutub Shah office as it was one of the oldest heritage buildings.
He said that the restoration of heritage structures like the Clock Tower at Moazzam Jahi Market, too, would be taken up shortly.
Former Mayor Mir Zulfequar Ali, Noor Khan Bazar Corporator Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh, South Zone Commissioner Balasubrahmanyam Reddy and senior officials from the engineering, town planning and health wings of the GHMC participated in the visit. (INN)
