GHMC To Ban Plastic Bags Above 50 Microns Too
The GHMC is going to ban usage of plastic bags of above 50 microns, too, keeping in view the pollution being caused by the non-bio-degradable material.
The GHMC is going to ban usage of plastic bags of above 50 microns, too, keeping in view the pollution being caused by the non-bio-degradable material.
A resolution to this effect was passed by in the General Body Meeting held today under the chairmanship of Bonthu Rammohan, Mayor. Most of the public representatives, city MLAs, MLCs, corporators and co-option members, Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, and senior officials of GHMC attended the meeting.
The Mayor said that the GHMC limits were generating 5,000 metric tons of garbage every day, of which 450 to 500 metric tons were plastic being generated by citizens through carry bags etc. This was resulting in plenty of pollution and dangers to the environment, he said.
The decision to ban the plastic bags was taken by the GHMC in compliance with the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and as recommended by the members, and the matter will be placed before the government for further orders.
