Following the delimitation and merger of several municipalities into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), a significant number of unauthorised and illegal advertisement structures had been identified at various locations across the city, GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan said today.
He said that enforcement action against such violations would be carried out in a phased and sustained manner across all GHMC limits to ensure urban orderliness, road safety and strict compliance with prescribed advertisement norms.
The Commissioner also said that strict action would be taken against violators, including the removal of unauthorised structures and the initiation of penal measures in accordance with the GHMC Act and relevant rules. He also appealed to advertisers, advertising agencies and property owners to strictly adhere to the existing regulations.
For context, in view of growing concerns over public safety, visual clutter and violations of municipal regulations, the GHMC has reportedly launched a special enforcement drive to systematically identify and remove unauthorised advertisement elements within its jurisdiction. As part of the ongoing drive, several illegal hoardings, banners and other unauthorised advertisement structures have already been dismantled. To strengthen the enforcement mechanism, the GHMC is also in the process of constituting a dedicated enforcement team exclusively tasked with monitoring, regulating and taking action against unauthorised advertisements.
