The GHMC reviews the the proposal of common ducts for power and communication in the city.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, on Saturday, held a meeting to review the the proposal of technical feasibility, costing and designing of common ducts for power and communication, with stakeholders and members of the committee constituted by the state government.
The meeting was attended by the members of the committee and 26 representatives from different service providers like Vodafone, Tata, Idea, Aircel, Fibertel, Digicable and Siticable.
GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu, who presided over the meeting, explained in detail about the proposed ducts for power and communication cables, and the need to locate them in the centre of roads. After detailed discussions with all the participants, the followings decision were taken.
Representatives from the service providers, who are technically conversant with the systems of cables and their details, may discuss with GHMC officials the details of the cross section of the proposed duct.
The GHMC proposes to construct the finalized duct in the corridors of the HMR route and charge the service providers at the calculated rate per km. This will be arrived at after the expenditure incurred is considered.
This rate will be calculated for the entire length of the corridor, and the applied agency will have to pay for it irrespective of whether the cable is laid for part of the length or the whole length of the corridor.
Agencies will be given incentives on a first-come-first-served basis. Agencies who apply later will be charged differently.
An operation & maintenance (O&M) operator will be selected based on tenders every year.
The work of detailed study and preparation of a DPR is being entrusted to INCAP (Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh). They will act as transaction advisors, and also study the potential for laying cables in each and every major road of the city. They will also suggest the mode of execution of the project - whether it can be implemented on a PPP model, on a BOT model, or by the GHMC itself.
It has been decided to send a team of GHMC officials along with representatives of FACO (Federation of Arial Cable Operators) to visit Chennai, Calcutta and other cities and finalize the method of construction of the proposed duct.
D Ronald Rose, Additional Commissioner (Planning), R Dhan Singh, Engineer-in-Chief, Chinna Reddy, Superintending Engineer (R&B), Srimannarayana, Superintending Engineer, GHMC, and other stakeholders of the process participated in the meeting. (INN)
