The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today said that it would soon set up 'mobile courts' to deal with violations that come under its ambit, particularly those pertaining to flouting norms of trade licenses and public health (littering, urinating in public spaces).
As per reports, the mobile courts, which would be set up in all GHMC circles, will function on the lines of mobile courts in several nations that penalize travellers without relevant documents.
Because urinating, defecating and throwing litter in public spaces are criminal offences, the GHMC said that it wanted to enforce Law by penalizing offenders by issuing spot violation receipts (chalans) of Rs. 100 or more.
It would penalize anyone from the general public to roadside vendors, hawkers, hotels and restaurants, if they flout norms.
Dumping garbage and urinating in public would attract a stringent fine as laid down by the civic body, the GHMC said.
The Union government directed all States to start levying fines for littering, open defecation and public urination in conformity with the flagship program Swachch Bharat Abhiyan to enforce civic sense and discipline among people living in urban areas.
