GHMC Mayor, Deputy Mayor Elected
The GHMC's special general body unanimously elected Mohammad Majid Hussain as Mayor and Raj Kumar as the Deputy Mayor, in the face of TDP and BJP disapproval.

Majid Hussain is the new GHMC Mayor, and Raj Kumar is the Deputy Mayor.
Mohammad Majid Hussain, the Ahmednagar division corporator, has been unanimously elected as the new Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Hussain was elected in the GHMC's special general body meeting, at the GHMC council hall in Tank Bund, on Tuesday. He was nominated by MIM's Doodhbowli corporator M A Ghaffar and former Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy.
Later, Congress floor leader K Venkatesh, and MIM's Mohammad Nazeeruddin nominated Kavadiguda corporator G Raj Kumar for the post of Deputy Mayor. He was also unanimously elected.
The Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party boycotted the elections and staged a walk-out from the GHMC's council hall. Therefore, of the 150 corporators, only 124 corporators were present during the voting.
City Minister D Nagender and M Mukesh Goud, Congress MPs Nandi Yellaiah and Anjan Kumar Yadav, MIM MLAs Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Muqtada Afsar Khan, Mohammad Moazam Khan, Ahmed Balala and Virasat Rasool Khan were also present. (INN)
