The GHMC had initiated a novel project named "Adopt Public Toilets" to keep public toilets clean, said its commissioner B Janardhan Reddy today.
There are 362 public toilets in the city - 135 are BOT, 109 are free-fabricated, 46 are part of Sulabh, 15 are SHE toilets, and 57 are engineering toilets. In his inspection, the Commissioner observed that the citizens were hesitating to use some of the public toilets as they were not being maintained properly.
In order to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the toilets, the Commissioner has come up with this initiative where the official concerned with a toilet will visit it daily and use it personally to ensure cleanliness.
The Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners are responsible for the cleanliness of the toilets in their respective zones, and upon the Commissioner's directions, have issued the necessary orders to their relevant staff members instructing them that they should visit the adopted public toilet daily and ensure its cleanliness.
The GHMC has also provided two pairs of white clothes and a pair of shoes to the attendants of the various public toilets, and is giving them hand wash liquids.
