GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar on Monday informed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would soon launch the second phase of the "Driver-cum-Owner" scheme as part of which 303 vehicles will be provided to jobless youth.
Somesh Kumar said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had been trying new approaches in the area of urban transportation so that drivers could become owners rather than remaining drivers for ever.
He further stated that in the second phase of the Driver-cum-Owner scheme, 90% of the vehicle's value would be given as a bank loan for SC/ST beneficiaries, with the driver needing to chip in with only 10%. For others, the numbers would be 80% bank loan and 20% beneficiary contribution.
Of the 303 vehicles, 105 will be utilized by the GHMC, and the remaining will be for cabs and other purposes.
The first phase of the scheme was launched by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali on August 13, with 105 vehicles handed over to unemployed youth. (INN)
