GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has earnestly appealed to the union and PH workers to call off their strike and resume work in the interest of citizens as sanitation conditions in the city are deteriorating, posing public health problems.
The sanitation workers of GHMC are agitating for the enhancement of their wages from February 1. "The government is conscious of the gravity of the issue, and has already constituted a committee of senior officers to examine the issue and come out with a solution," he said.
The committee, consisting of the Commissioner, GHMC, C&DMA and Addl. Director (Labour Department), held a series of meetings, interacted with employee unions, and submitted its report to the government on December 27 last year. The government has sought certain additional information / clarifications, which were submitted by the GHMC Commissioner on Monday.
The government is actively considering the proposal to enhance the wages of sanitation workers suitably in all ULBs in AP, including the GHMC. The decision of the government in this regard is expected shortly. In view of the above, the union and the PH workers have been requested to call off their strike and get back to work at the earliest. (INN)
