2 employees of a drug manufacturing company were killed and 2 others fell unconscious, after inhaling suspected poisonous gas, in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
According to reports, the gas leakage occurred at the Third Unit of Dr. Reddy's Laboratory located at Industrial Development Area in Bollaram, Jinnaram mandal, in Medak district.
The laboratory has confirmed the death of the 2 employees — Sridhar Reddy, a chemist hailing from Guntur district, and Deepak, a contract labourer hailing from Orissa.
The mishap took place in a chemical manufacturing unit where nitrogen gas leaked, killing the 2 employees on the spot.
"Only after examination by the medical experts can we know the name of the chemical which leaked," the officials said.
The condition of 2 others is stated to be out of danger. The firm's Bollaram manufacturing facility produces active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Police said the victims were on night duty.
Reacting to the news, shares of the pharmaceutical company fell a whopping 4.13% on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
