The Rachakonda police today arrested a gang involved in the circulation of fake currency notes after receiving a complaint from one Murali Krishna on June 15.
In his complaint. Krishna had told the police that gems worth Rs 40 lakh had been stolen from his house.
However, when the police began to investigate the matter, they found that the accuser was a criminal himself - it was revealed that he was the prime accused behind a fake currency circulation scam.
The police seized fake Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 17.72 crore, Rs 6.32 lakh in cash, 10 mobile phones and an Etios (a car) from the possession of the accused. They also arrested six other accused in the case.
Krishna himself had gone to jail in a Rs 90 crore hawala scam case in the past.
Today's arrests come just a day after the Cyberabad police arrested a
notorious gang of fraudsters, including one Pidugu Adinarayana Murthy.
The arrests were made on the basis of a complaint lodged by a real estate professional who claimed that he got to know Murthy and his associates through work-related networks. The gang had allegedly cheated the complainant of Rs 8,50,00,000.
