Telangana Industries and IT Minister K T Rama Rao today said that households consuming up to 20,000 litres of drinking water would get free drinking water from January.
He was speaking after a meeting with officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the GHMC, and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar.
"The TRS government is working to keep its promise of providing free drinking water to Hyderabad. Households consuming up to 20,000 litres of water per month will not have to pay any water bills from January. The water board, the GHMC and other civic bodies will coordinate to ensure the smooth implementation of this," he said.
The minister directed the officials to collect the details of such households in December itself for the implementation of the scheme, so that the scheme could be perfectly implemented from the next month.
The board also updated the minister about the current state of the drinking water supply system in the city, and said that it was now taking steps to ensure the availability of water in the summer months.
KTR is also set to hold another meeting with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao seeking the latter's approval for the action plan for the scheme's implementation.
