Former Union Minister in the NDA government, S Satyanarayana Rao, passed away on Friday morning at a corporate hospital in the city after a brief illness.
The cause of death of the 90-year-old leader was attributed to age-related ailments.
Satyanarayana Rao had served as a Union Minister Of State for Agriculture in the NDA government during 1999 to 2004 after being elected to the Lok Sabha from the Rajahmundry Parliamentary constituency. He had also served as an MLC twice, in 1958 and in 1980.
A keen proponent of Vedic studies, Satyanarayana Rao is credited with setting up many educational institutes devoted to the subject. He is also remembered for his role in getting sugar factories for Andhra Pradesh during his term as the MoS.
His body would be brought to his native village Kapileswarpuram in East Godavari district by Friday evening, and the cremation is expected to take place on Saturday.
