Fire engulfed a godown of a chemical factory at Autonagar in LB Nagar early on Thursday morning, destroying chemicals stored there. No human casualty was reported.
According to fire department sources, the fire ravaged through the godown of Sabero Organics Limited, and turned chemicals stored there into ashes.
It is believed that the fire started after a short-circuit ignited the chemicals. The wind current helped the flames to spread rapidly.
Fire tenders from Hayathnagar, Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.
The thick chemical fumes and heat generated due to the explosion of chemicals hindered fire operations for some time.
However, the officials managed to bring the flames under control after struggling for more than 6 hours.
Preliminary estimates put the loss at around Rs. 3 crore. However, company management officials yet to estimate the loss that occurred.
