Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will hold a meeting with Congress MPs from the Telangana region, over the issue of voting for the FDI issue in Parliament.
According to sources, the meeting is likely to be held at around 10:30am on Tuesday. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath is also likely to participate in the meeting.
It may be mentioned here that the Congress-led UPA government has decided to hold a debate, with voting, on the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, in Lok Sabha on December 4 and 5.
Sources say that the ruling party fears that the Telangana Congress MPs might raise the issue of Telangana statehood during the debate on FDI. Tuesday's meeting is being held to convince the MPs not to obstruct the debate or abstain from crucial voting on the issue.
The Telangana Congress MPs had earlier set December 9 as the "deadline" for the High Command to announce its decision on the statehood issue.
They had also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary, demanding discussions on Telangana in the House.
However, with no signs of the Congress taking a decision by the set deadlines, the MPs have reportedly threatened to abstain from voting on the FDI issue. (INN)
