Following the continuing rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana, Health Minister Etala Rajender today inspected the treatment facilities at the TIMS, the King Koti Hospital, and the Gandhi Hospital.
Speaking after the inspection, he stated that, the Telangana government, under the guidance of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, had been bolstering the state's healthcare facilities to equip them to handle the ongoing second wave of the pandemic.
"Out of a total of 47,000 beds available in government hospitals, over half are being used for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The more critical cases are being sent to the Gandhi Hospital and other private hospitals. Most cases, as many as 95%, are asymptomatic. Despite this, all the hospitals in Telangana, including private medical colleges, are fully equipped to treat patients. I would urge the health workers to discharge their duties well at this time of crisis," the minister said.
He appealed to the health workers to provide their support to Covid-19 patients on humanitarian grounds.
Turning to the public, Rajender asked everyone to be "extra-cautious" and follow all the prevention and safety protocols required to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh Bhagawath urged the residents of his commissionerate to be vigilant during the ongoing pandemic.
He emphasised the need to adhere fully to all the Covid-19 safety guidelines, and asked the residents to wear face masks when outside, to sanitise their hands regularly, and to practice social distancing.
"We urge the residents of the Rachakonda area to follow all the Covid-19 norms to ensure not only their own safety but also that of others. Violators will be identified through CCTVs and will be charged Rs 1,000 for their non-compliance through e-challans. It is unfortunate that we had to book 832 cases against violators on Tuesday alone," the CP added.
Clarifying the rules regarding large social gatherings, he stated that no gathering should host more than 200 people, and that all the people would have to follow the standard safety norms at such events as well.
