Social Welfare minister Pithani Satyanarayana, on Monday, stated that the state government would take a final decision on the fee structure in engineering colleges in the state, after a cabinet sub-committee meeting to be held on Tuesday at 3pm.
Talking to media persons at the state Secretariat after conducting a review meeting with the officials, Pithani Satyanarayana said that 67 colleges were yet to file affidavits to the government seeking the fixation of their fee.
He said that the government would fix the tuition fee in these colleges subject to their infrastructure facilities and the court's directions.
He admitted that out of 700 engineering colleges in the state, only 25 colleges have full-fledged facilities of infrastructure and faculty.
Based on the facilities in these colleges, the government had fixed Rs. 35,000 as the common tuition fee. He said that he expects the tuition fees in some colleges to come down after Task Force members inspects them.
The minister reiterated that the government was committed to the reimbursement of fees to students of the SC, ST, BC and other economically backward sections.
Responding to a question on fee reimbursement, he said that the government would make efforts to protect the interests of students if they are required to pay more than Rs. 35,000 as fee in certain colleges. (INN)
