Engineering students may have to shell out an additional Rs. 40,000 per year if Minister For Technical Education Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao's hint of a revision of the fee structure is implemented.
Currently, students under the convenor quota pay around Rs. 30,000 while management quota students have to shell out over Rs. 90,000.
Addressing the gathering at an education fair in Visveswaraiah Bhavan, Venkata Ramana Rao said that the management boards of engineering colleges have been demanding an upward revision of the fee structure for a long time now.
He said that these boards are seeking a fee structure along the lines of colleges in neighbouring states, and said that colleges complain that it was becoming difficult for them to provide quality education as per AICTE norms to students due to the low fee structure.
Venkata Ramana Rao said that the fee structure would be announced after a panel of senior officials reviews the prevalent fee structure in other states and submits a report.
The Technical Education Minister said that a proposal to allocate some engineering and medical seats to students from outside the state was also under consideration.
